My PC crashed yesterday. I did everything I could with
the repair console. I also booted off my XP CD and tried a
repair installation, nothing worked. I had no choice but
to reinstall Windows. However, I did not reformat, I
reinstalled in the same partition.

Problem is, I want to recover my My Documents folder, and
files I had on my old desktop. I see that in the
Documents and Settings folder, my old name is still there,
but I can't access it. Is there any way around this?
Anything I can use to recover my files?

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
