My Computer (XP)

OS = XP
By default "My Computer" does not appear on the desktop
(as it did with previous Windows OS) How do I make it
appear on the desktop....not as a shortcut????

All icons on the desktop are shortcuts.
 
Without the black arrow (shortcut), the icon will serve
different functions.

Right click the desktop, select Properties. On the Desktop tab, click the
Customize Desktop button. You'll find the page to add/remove the system
shortcuts such as My Computer (the ones without the shortcut arrows) to the
desktop.
