Recently i have been having an ongoing problem with the explorere shell (My,
Document/My Computer) locking when either clicking on the 'file' pull down,
right clicking on a file, or just slecting a file and hitting delete.

anyone come across this or know why this is happening? I have run Adaware,
Norton, and Alure and not a thing is found.

Thanks,

Thank you for the link, I'll look into this and see if it fixes the problem.

I downloaded ShellExView and tried disabling all the "context menu handlers"
(including microsoft ones) and still am having the same problem, also diabled
my local network as another possiblility (per the article) and didn't help
either.

obviously this problem was fixed this way or it wouldn't have been published
but it seems like something is missing that would make this fix work.

Shack,

Right click causes an error and crashes Explorer.exe after installing
Windows XP SP2

One poster said that he used TweakUI to decrease the number of Templates and
that fixed the
slow right click problem. It may be worth a shot.

TweakUI\Templates

Templates
When you right click and select the New menu, certain files can be created
automatically. This list allows you to delete certain types as well as
create new types.

Download TweakUI here...

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Tweak UI
This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not
exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including
mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more.

Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or above or Windows
Server 2003.

Scroll down the right hand side and look for...
Tweak UI
TweakUI.exe

TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe is what you get.

If you have Windows XP without any Service Packs, download Version 2.00.

Wes, spent some time messing with everything that was suggested, still having
the same issue but the time which it takes for right click to work has been
reduced "some". And, one encouraging thing that happened is that at least
once selecting a file/folder and hitting delete worked immediately, which had
not worked before.

I had been having problems with Nortons Live Update erroring so I went
through uninstalling and reinstalling all my Norton software..... but that
got me thinking about what had i installed recently. I have begun starting
to remove programs beginning with the latest "Isobuster" which i had
downloaded to extract data. so far still no luck to improve the time delay.
This can be a time consuming process, unfortunately the XP pro was
preinstalled on the IBM i have so reinstallation is not an option.... which
at this point i think would be the quickest way to fix it.

I will continue to try different things.
