'my computer' loads at startup

For about a year, and seemingly spontaneously, every time at startup, after
arriving at my desktop for less than a second, the 'my computer' page loads,
so that I always have to close it to get (back) to my desktop, and begin
working. I suspect this is a minor problem, with an easy fix, and I'd
appreciate guidance to correct it. This is regarding XP Home Ed. Thanks.

There's no straight-forward answer. Get a few ideas from this thread.

After reading through that thread, I tried the two things which seemed to be
suggested, which were to -

1) check through msconfig; I did not see an entry that seemed to refer to
the my computer page
2) follow a sequence recommended by a different respondent, using regedit to
get to a certain key in the 'right pane under Userinit' that this person
thought might have two 'C:\\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe' entries separated
by a comma, and need to be made single; however, mine was already single

Thanks for your reply, Joe. Any other ideas?

In Regedit, press Home key, then press Ctrl/F. Place "Runonce" into the
search pane (no quotes), deselect the "Values" and "Data" boxes, and
click Find Next.

When located, cursor up one position to Run and see if there are any
entries that look wrong. Press F3 twice to continue the search, to
bypass the previous "Runonce" find. If there's no Run just above
"Runonce", press F3 to continue the search.

If you find an entry you think could be the cause because of a syntax
error, post it so we can look at it.

Embarrassingly, I don't think I have, because I don't know for sure where
that folder is.

I did get a 'Run', not with the initial 'find next', but after using F3.
Under 'Run', in the right pane, there are 21 entries, and tomy novice eyes,
not one of them suggests to me that it has to do with the 'my computer'
window. In the 'Name' column, along with a small square with 'ab' inside, I
have -

(Default)
BuildBU
dla
DVDLauncher
igfxhkcmd
igfxper
igfxtray
IntelMeM
ISUSPM Startup
ISUSScheduler
iTunesHelpe
Logitech Communi...
Logitech QuickCa...
mcagent_exe
MimBoot
MMTray
QuickTime Task
SiteAdvisor
SoundMAXPnP
SunJavaUpdateS
TkBelExe

The 'Type' column has all the same entry - REG_SZ

The 'Date' column has corresponding entries - a few are C:\WINDOWS\System
32\..., and most are C:\Program Files\...

Thanks

We need to see the paths (such as C:\Program Files\) to see if there are
extraneous entries, missing quotes, etc. that would cause the default
folder to open.

Yes, I actually had checked that location, not realizing that was a 'folder'.
'Adobe Reader Speed Launch' is the only item there.

Thanks. I'm not clear 'where' I should save the key.

Once I do, I'll attempt to post the file to your XP forum.
