"My Computer" Icon on Desktop does not open

M

Mr. Bill

My PC utilizes Windows XP

"My Computer" Icon does not open when either I double left click or Right
click and click 'Open' on the menu.

I have burned 100s of CDs in the past and when the CD was placed in Drive E
[CD burner] a menu came up that allowed me to click through the process.

Recently, this menu did not open, so I would open "My Computer" and proceed
with the 1. find the file, 2. copy the file, 3. select Drive E, 4. name the
CD, 5. burn the CD.

Then in the last year, probably after I had deleted some unused and
irrelevant programs [for which I don't remember what!] the "My Computer" Icon
did not open the appropriate menu.

I have found another way around this, but it sure would be nice to find out
what driver is missing that will allow "My Computer" to open.

Thanks for any help since my CD burning project is a volunteer effort for
the Hunterdon County, NJ, Historical Society.

Regards,

Mr. Bill

I guess I must thank Microsoft. Within 30 minutes of the post noted below, I
received an update from Microsoft. After booting my PC, I tried to open the
"My Computer" Icon and Voila! the Icon immediately opened and my problem is
solved.

Thank you very much,
from Mr. Bill

Try my Explorer Shell Fix tool. Download it here http://www.ms-mvp.org/

Do that and you will have more trouble than you started with.

In spite of the site name, it has nothing to do with MS and is in fact a
site bellonging to a fake MVP.
