I am trying to burn a music cd and the computer keeps telling me that I have
not inserted a blank cd in the cd rom. I have checked the cd and it is indeed
blank. I have changed brand of blank cd and still no luck. The cd rom plays
cd well (wether copies or original) but the auto start does not seem to work
either. Can you help?

What brand/model of CD/DVD writer do you have?

maybe you can try computer management via admin tools.
ensure you have a blank cd in there and "explore" that drive.

a file explorer windows should open up.
then open a second file explorer windows via the start menu and
go to any document or pic.

then try draggin a file from one window over the the cd window and
see if you notate a change, like "files awaiting to be written" or
something..

Hi, I clicked on the properties tab of the audio cd drive and it came up with
2 names: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8320B dvd/cd-rw drive and Samsung SV4002H disk
drive. Is this of any help? Thank you

Hi, thanks for replying. I have dragged 3 files from one window to the other
(1 music, 1 photo and 1 word doc) without any problems, but when I want to
writes those file onto my blank CD the cd writing wizard comes up with an
error message that says 'the disc in the drive is not a writable cd (it is!)
or it is full (it's not). Please insert a writable cd into drive F or insert
a disc with enough free space to hold all the files you have selected for
writing to cd' . I have then deleted the music file to make sure it was not a
space issue leaving just one small pic and a word doc and yet the same
message appeared!

Are you using a CD-RW disc or a CD-R?

If you are using a CD-RW disc you will need to "format" it.

Your CD burning software should have an option for it. Windows built-in
burning does not (that I am aware of)

My first thought would be to run a cleaning CD/DVD in both of your
drives. Dirty laser lenses cause all sorts of trouble. Second, are you
100% sure you're inserting the blank CD into the burner drive? Just for
shits and grins try inserting the blank CD into the other drive......
OK, now that you're 100% sure about which drive is the burner, remove
all CD/DVD's from all drives and restart your computer. Once the system
is back up and at the desktop, insert a 'KNOWN' blank CD or DVD into the
burner. When Windows 'sees' the CD, does it give you the option to 'Open
writable CD folder using Windows Explorer'? If so, try dropping music
files onto the empty folder then click the link to 'Write these files to
CD', then follow the wizard. If you are not presented with an option to
open a writable folder then try inserting the blank disk into the other
drive. If neither drive gives you an option to write then your burner is
probably just plain bad. I've seen more than a few drives with this same
problem.

Cost to replace the bad drive: $49 for the drive and $45 for labor (at
least that's what I charge)

Hi and thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure that the cds are blank because it a new pack that I bought a few weeks ago and I must have tried about 10 different ones to be sure...I will go and get a cleaning kit and see what happens after that and will let you know if this solves anything or if I need some more help. In the meantime, thank you for your suggestions.
