My CD Burner won't work

I know this has been raised before but I can't find an answer that
doesn't involve uninstalling SP2. I loaded the dreaded service pack
and I can no longer burn a CD. The drive is recognised but I cannot
see anything on it or burn to it. I understand there was a hotfix but
can't find a european version of this. Any ideas?
