Music works but all other sound doesn't

My computer had to be fixed yesterday but now, no sounds work except music.
All of my alerts, asterisks, incoming messages, are all set to certain sounds
and they don't work. Even windows alerts don't play.
 
Your music plays on what cd's? winamp? windows media player? trying going
into your control panel then sounds and make sure they are enabled.
