why can't i hear sound

I can play music through programs like yahoo music but if I go to a website I
can't hear sound on it. I can see videos but can't hear sounds. Please help
me. When I try to check my volumes settings through the start menu, it says
there are no active mixer devices available. It was working and just all of
a sudden stop playing sounds a few days ago.

Hello,
Please go to device manager and check to see if your sound card is disabled.

to do this please do the following

Right Click on My Computer and select Manage
Expand the System Tools tab if needed
Select Device Manager

look under Sound, Video and Game controllers
and see if you have an exclamation mark or a red x.

If its a yellow exclamation mark, you must reinstall the driver. if its a
red x, right click and select enable

Find the drivers and install them. You should have received a driver CD
with your system, if not Belarc Advisor can tell you what the audio hardware
is, and you can then go and get the drivers.
