can't hear sound other than midi

hey all,

I can't hear any sound coming from my computer (XP) when I play music.
The music plays fine I just can't hear it. The strange thing is that I
am able to hear ok when I play midis, but cannot hear any other type
of sound file.

This worked fine until some time ago when it just stopped working. Any
ideas.

I never thought I'd say this but the Windows troubleshooter actually
fixed the problem. I'm speechless. Anyways, the problem was that the
Default Device for music playback had somehow been changed so I
changed it back.
