Multiple desktop icons in Explorer

R

Sometimes after opening Windows Explorer and doing a few things (view
folders, copying files, general type stuff), Explorer refreshes it's folder
list and I get mulitple desktop icons, as in this image:

Anyone know how I can elimate that problem.

The first one looks like it should be My Documents.
Second one looks like My Computer.
Third looks like My Network Places.
Fourth looks like Recycle Bin.

The last one actually looks like Desktop.

I have no idea if these are named incorrectly, incorrect icon or what causes
this.

What's in them?

It just happened again today. When I click on them, they display the
correct information, based on the icon ... so it's the label that is
incorrect. What triggered it today was choosing "Sort by Name" in the Start
/ Programs menu, after I had installed a new program. The most common
trigger is when a folder or subfolder has been added, and Explorer has to
recognize it.

For example, if I unzip a file using "Extract to Here" from the right-click
context menu, and the zip file has sub-folders, this will sometimes trigger
it.

Note also that the image I've posted shows 5 desktop items, but I've seen it
multiply over time, to where there are 10 or 15. If I close Explorer and
re-open, the problem goes away.

Hi there,

Was a resolution found for this issue?

I too have the same problem with multiple "copies" of the desktop icon
appearing in my windows explorer. However the icon varies in that not only do
the different "root" icons appear in front of the label "Desktop", but also
there will be 5 copies of the desktop icon with the label "Desktop" next to
it.

Any thoughts on fixing this will be greatly appreciated.

TIA
