Multiple desktop icons in Explorer

There was a discussion on this a year ago, but no resolution.
The problem is some sort of bug in windows explorer tree view.

The problems are similar to those described in MS KB ARticle 323681:
· If you click the plus sign (+) on a node, the folders that are
located under that node may not be displayed.
· The Desktop folder is listed multiple times.

But that article says the problem is "After You Create a Folder That Is
Named "Desktop" on the Desktop in Windows XP". That is not the case for
me - I checked with the command prompt and there are no folders named
Desktop. Are there any other known causes, and more importantly, any
solutions?

Lorin,

Are you using the "Desktop" toolband in the Taskbar?

Yes. And disabling (unchecking) the Desktop toolbar solves the problem. I
know this is only a workaround.

Yes I am, now that you mention it. Is that the problem?
