Folder tree display faulty

T

The Prisoner

In windows explorer, in any folder or directory, when Moving or Copying or
Renaming a folder or file I will occasionally see this happen in the folder
tree of the folder I am in when the operation completes. Always at the top
level (desktop), not the folder that I happen to be in.

A duplicate set of desktop icons will appear above the "real" Desktop icon,
and all of them will be named "Desktop". The duplicate icons will be correct
though, for MY COMPUTER, RECYCLE BIN, etc, and for any other folders that are
actually on my desktop. Furthermore, I can select any of these duplicate
icons and they will open the correct object they represent. It's like a
"clone" Desktop folder tree ABOVE the actual desktop folder tree.

Any input is appreciated, since it is hard to put in a few words for a
search engine....

Does disabling the "Desktop" toolbar on the Taskbar help?

Ramesh:

Thank you for answering my post.
FIRST, let me say that I am Honored to recieve your reply- I peruse your
Winhelponline site routinely, and have benefited enormously from it. You are,
as the young kids would say, one of my "Idols" in the IT field. Thank you,
sir.

To the point at hand: I never thought of that! I have always used the
desktop toolbar. I just disabled it, and experimented for a few minutes
without any manifestation of the problem I described. I will be using the
system for several hours today, and will reply again tonite or tomorrow to
this post with the results.

Thank you again, sir, for what may turn out to be an incredibly simple
answer to an annoying problem....

without any manifestation of the problem I described.
