multiple animations with text

P

PJ

I've tried and I've tried, I've looked and searched the help files but I
cannot find how to 're-animate' text..
I would like to animate text (a list, actually) to appear on a slide, arrive
one after the other depending on time required, complete the slide animation
(all of which I have no problem doing) BUT then I'd like to recommence an
animation of the listed text by, perhaps, moving it off screen or dissolving
it, one item at a time, automatically. Prefer automatic rather than 'on
click' option. I just cannot see how to add multiple animations to the
text. Is it possible?
Thanks a lot.

It depends on your version of PowerPoint, whether it's possible. It can be
done easily in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003. Use the "Exit"-Animations there.

In PPT 97 and 2000 it can only be done with workarounds, e.g. covering the
elements with rectangles in background color or using duplicate slides.

If you need more details, holler back and tell us the version you use.

Kind regards,
Ute

Thank you... i do apologise, basic error not to have stated that I'm using
PP 2002 ..
However, I am confused about "exit" - animations ?? Can't find that option
anywhere..

Yes, I see now what you mean but that doesn't allow multiple animations on
the same piece of text(?).. If I apply that to the text, it overwrites the
original animation which allowed for a timed entrance of the items on the
list..What I would like to do is AFTER all the text has entered as a list -
one line at a time - I would like to exit the text lines one at a time
(maybe 1/2 minutes later for example). This requires applying a different
animation to the same text item. Is it possible to apply muliple animations
to the same text? If so, how?

There are four types of animations in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 - entrance,
emphasis, exit, and motion path. When you select an effect (click the Add
Effect button), they are listed in those four categories.

Sonia,
Thank you,
I have posted another note but to re-state that..I can do all of these
animations, what I am unable to do is find a way of applying more than one
animation on the same text - albeit at a later moment in the presentation of
the particular slide I am on... Is it possible? Or if not, is there a work
around perhaps? If I could duplicate the event/text in the 'custom
animation' window to the right of the main slide window, I could just move
it to wherever in the event list I wanted it to be and change the
animation accordingly... but I can't find a way of duplicating it either!!

Just keep playing with it. Set up your initial animations. Then when you're
ready, in the sequence, to add an animation (maybe to make it disappear?) select
the text on the slide and then click on Add Effect, select the effect and a new
instance of the object will appear in the Custom Animation list.

To add another effect to an object, select the object on the *slide.* The
"add effect" button in the animation task pane will say "add effect."

To *change* an existing effect on an object, select the effect on the
*animation task pane." the "add effect" button becomes a "change" button, so
you will know you're on the right track.
