How do I connect the client machine via Internet to the remote desktop host
machine (running XP Pro), when it does not have a public IP (i.e. behind the
firewall with private IP, DHCP assigned by the ISP server)?

Teamviewer is not a product made by Microsoft!!

You can also check any VNC software. UltraVNC seems to a fairly good
version.
