Recently my paint program always opens with a blank white
square which I cannot get rid of. All functions work on
this square alone thus rendering the programme unuseable.
How do I clear it and get a clear new file? Any answers
please?

Meriel;
Paint opens with a blank white square. This is normal. If you want to
open something else, click File/Open. To get new, click File/New.
Open: Ctrl + O
New: Ctrl + N
Hope this helps. Let us know.

" thus rendering the programme unuseable. " - why?

The 'white square' will always be there when you open
Paint - until you do File Open and load something in -
or you 'do something' on the 'white square' - if you want
to make the 'white square' larger then do
Image\Attributes and make it whatever size you wish -
otherwise - when you do File \Open it will automatically
ask you if you want the 'white sqaure' (Bitmap) enlarged
if your File is larger than the 'white square'
