I have seen a number of posted with people having trouble signing into MSN
Live. I have the same problem and have tried the suggested fixes in the
posts, but none have worked at all. I have even tried uninstalling and
reinstalling. I have another PC on the same network at it works.

I have checked the connections, done repairs, edited the registry etc....

Any more ideas on how to fix the issue?

I'm having the same problem. I put in the login, and password, and it starts
the login, and then just sits there with those little pawns spinning around.
If I'm logged in on my other computer, it logs me off messenger there too.

It started for my about October 15/16. Funny thing is I can't login using
the signin that I usually use, but if I use anotherr one, it signs in fine,
which to me tells me that my software is ok. I can also login to this account
on another computer, just not this one.

I tried uninstalling MSMessenger 8.0, deleting all the associated files, and
even cleaning it out of the registry, rebooting, and then reinstalling, and
it still fails. I came here as a last resort, and I see that there are many
people having the same issue. COuld it be this problem is related to
Microsoft, or some new security breach?

Greetings Adam,

Unfortunately due to all the fixes available and connectivity problems being the primary
issue on this newsgroup, I assume you mean the latest ones?

Just to clarify, if Messenger is spinning around over and over when trying to sign in, which
is the latest issue, simply shut down Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon in the
notification area and choosing Exit, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/remove_wlmpolicies.reg

Then try signing in again.

If you've already done that or are seeing something else, can you reply back with more
specifics and any error codes as that would be helpful.

This is what I have tried several times in the past and just tried again.
The icon spins attempting to sign in without error messages. Nothing happens.

Thanks

I have now upgraded to IE 7 and installed all the latest .NET patches and
upgrades in hope of resolving the issue with signing on. I am at a loss as
to how to fix this now. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jonathan

I am not getting any error codes. It begins signing in and the icon spins
and never signs in. I have manually checked the registry to ensure the
policy was deleted even though we ran the suggested fix. I have two other
computers with MSN live on my home network - one wireless and the other with
a direct connection and they both work. I have checked the Windows firewall
to see if it is blocking it. My old version of Messenger 4.7.3001 works fine
though. I use the free version of AVAST virus software and have looked to
see if there is a block on it and cannot see one - in fact I have tried
turning it off.

Thanks

Had the same problem, just ran the .REG fix and everything is okay now.
Thanks a lot!!

Me Too, the 'reg file fixed my problem!....what the hell was the problem
anyway, cause me to spend many hours messing with my install and firewalls!!!
arghhh

Well Adam has tried everything and now including removing all MSN versions
and installing 7.5 and then upgrading to 8.0. 8.0 will not sign in period.
There are no error messages and the network check in MSN checks out fine.
The .reg that everyone refers to is NOT applicable. We are now back to 7.5
which works fine. Something else is wrong. My other Son in Canada also has
the same issue so I would say 8.0 has issues. This PC works fine though
wiht 8.0 !.

Any ideas are appreciated.

FIXED:
We managed to get the software signing in. We installed BETA 8.1 and
removed all other MSN programs from the system.
