MSInstaller error 1035

Jerry

I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. As of mid-August something strange
started happening. Event viewer is now full of messages (event Id.1035
source MsiInstaler) appearing every day, indicating the following for almost
all my installed applications (example for Adobe Reader shown here):

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Adobe Reader
7.0.9. Product Version: 7.0.9. Product Language: 1033. Reconfiguration
success or error status: 0.

Anybody knows what is happening?

Hi Jerry--

Event Viewer is a helpful source, however to context it, it's always full of
error messages and some of them just aren't important or particularly
relevant unless you're having a problem--particularly in Windows
Logs>Application.

The other problem is that many of the messages are written closer to code
than in language that can be used by most users. I check it often and most
of the links for most messages will take you to a page that brilliantly says
"MSFT has no solution for this event now" (and 6 years later they never do
since XP was launched in my experience).

Here's what I note about your post.

You've communicated that since August (for about a month) "something strange
started happening." You keep what that something strange that started
happening on your box is a complete mystery from us.

Then you hop to the fact that EV is full of messages. Everyone's EV is full
of messages.

MSI Installer error 1035 is a non-specific error, and you can google and
find non-specific references to it.

Have you in fact had trouble installing something. The MSI is the Windows
Installer. In my experience, when there is trouble installing because of the
MSI there is one very key MSKB that often fixes the MSI and allows you to
install. That MSKB is titled "Error 1719", but believe me it fixes problems
with the MSI that are wide and varied and the user does not necessarily see
Error 1719 when he has the problems it can fix. I use it in conjunction
with the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Links are below, but again have
you had trouble either installing or uninstalling applications?

When I have problems with the MSI I do this:

I'd try fixing the MSI with Method One of this
MSKB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346

Then download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility at the bottom of
this link here, and then try your install:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I'm not putting you down at all, but for us to help you you need to clearly
present a problem--you've got to be more specific than "something strange is
going on on my pc and btw my EV has a lot of messages."

What is it that you cannot do on your computer? What is it that you want to
fix or change?

If you tell us, we can try to help. Give us something to work with that we
can help you fix or change.

Good luck,

CH

Thank you for the extensive and kind answer. I apologize for my very poor
presentation of the problem.

The strange thing that started happening in August, the problem that I ask
about, is that the described message of level Information started appearing
in the EV. Every single day since then, the same happens: at PC startup, for
every application I have installed, one event Id.1035 appears with the
following text:

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: <the product name
Product Version: <product version> Product Language: 1033. Reconfiguration
success or error status: 0.

Apart from filling up the EV and making the startup last longer, nothing
else seems to be wrong.
