Hi all. When trying to install HP 6127 Printer software, (which installed
and configured the printer on my desktop system) on my laptop, that is on
the same Ethernet network, I keep receiving the error message that
MSIExec.exe had an error and needs to close. How can I extract this file
from the CD? I was able to install the printer through "Add Printer" but I
can't get the Print Assistant software to load.
Thanks,
Paul

Richard,
Thanks for the reply. The link provided is for operating systems prior
to XP, I already have XP. I downloaded the file anyway, but when I tried to
install it, it reported back "wrong OS". I found the file on my XP CD but
it's in it's compacted form, I couldn't find an extraction utility to
extract just this file.Any other ideas.

Richard,
Thanks, very interesting site.I printed out all 3 parts. Part 3 explains
how to extract a file from the CD. Well one question is answered. I figured
out how to replace my current copy of msiexec.exe. Duh! Copy it from the
desktop through the network. Don't know why I didn't think of the earlier.
Well did it and rebooted but still got the same results. Installation
proceeds almost to the end but then gets the error message. It offers to
send a report to MS which I've done a few times. There is more detail
available but it doesn't direct me to where the problem might lay. Now this
software installed without a hitch on the HP which also runs XP so it's got
to be something on this computer. I tried starting in safe mode but it won't
let me install software in that state. I've tried with all the "start" items
not loading through msconfig but no difference. Stymied!

Richard,
Finally got the program to install. I was e-mailing the HP tech support
and received a suggestion that worked. I was told to delete.tmp internet
files to free up more recourses, did it but I don't think this was the
solution. I was told to (in msconfig) to stop System.ini, Win.ini and also
stop start up programs. Then I was told to go to the services tab. I had
been there before but was intimidated by the extensive list. HP's support
said to check the "Hide MS Stuff" and now there were four programs left,
these dealing with anti-virus software. After unchecking these I restarted
and the software installed without a hitch. Well it's been a learning
experience, isn't it always. Again thanks for your help.
Happy Holidays,
Paul

Well done, from what you mention I suspect it was the a/v software that was
interfering with software installation.
Standard advice is to disable a/v software before installing drivers /
application software. I wish I'd thought to suggest that :-)

regards, Richard
