*msi and *msp failures redux

Back on 06/11 I had posted a question about *.msi and *.msp windows installer
and patch files not loading, returning a error dialog showing Error Code
2352. Shown below is my respnse to an answer about "registering" cabinet.dll.

Well, I am still unable to install anything that has a .msi or .msp
extension on this computer.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I tried to register the dll as instructed below, but received an error dialog
that stated, '"Cabinet.dll is not an executable file and no registration
helper is registered for this file type.'

I tried to install VistaUpgradeAdvisor.msi anyway and received the same
error dialog as noted in my initial post.

Will await further instruction.

Have you tried this

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

That will fix any corrupt / missing system files, which is most likely
your problem. Do a drive image first though better safe than sorry.
