I have three (3) PC's all WINDOWS XP PRO SP3
I have A LINKSYS BRoadband DSL ROUTER which supplies the IP address via DHCP
192.168.x.x

I can ping all devices pc's and router from each pc with no problem.

When I display My Network Places I get all the shares from all deveices PC's
and my NAS device.

The problem comes when I try to display VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS when I
click on this option I get this error

Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. the specified network name in no longer available

I then click ok and try again and then it works. this happens on all 3 pc's

Does anyone have any idea on why I get this error?

Any help would be great

Added note this always has happened and I just rebuilt all three pcs from
scratch and it still happens.

Thanks

Tom

Thanks for the information
That all checked out

I did some further testing and found that which ever pc is acting as the
master browser it does not have the problem

It is only on the pc's that is not the master browser

I restarted the computer browser service then usd browstat to see which pc
was the master browser

I then tried to view workgroup computers and it worked

When I went to the pc that was not the master browser I get the error. The
problem is I must click on it more than once. It is not like I can not
access the shares etc it just seems to be a big annoyance here.

I use Microsofts Windows Live One Care as my Firewall/Antivirus program, I
have no legacy firewall/virus programs on my pc's. They have all been
rebuilt from a reformatted hard drive.

It is very strange not sure what else to look for, the firewall settings are
the exact same on all three pc's

Maybe we have a bug in SP3 code hotfix anyone?

Thanks

Other anti-virus (note Symantec) also include an Internet worm virus
blocking module which completely blocks all NetBIOS name resolution
requests. Therefore, when active, you can not access other PC /
devices by name (ie: \\PC1) but might be able to access by IP address
(ie: \\192.168.0.1.)

Also check on "Simple file / printer sharing."
