msgina.dll missing, boot problems

I had the same problems that the others are describing
with the winlogon.exe image and msgina.dll file missing.
I re-installed XP by booting from the CD, and choosing to
repair windows. However, after installation was comlete,
it goes into wondows, the blue screen comes on that
says "click username to start" or "click to turn off"...
Problem is that there are no usernames to click on. If
press ctrl+alt+delete than the password box comes on, to
which i don't have a password to. Any suggestions? If I
install a new copy of XP, will all my files be gone? if
not, how do I do it?

Thanks for any help!
Dan

Well, you could do a new install on a different partition and then try to
bring your files over to the new installation.

I guess it's a little late to ask if you have a backup of your files.
