Help! msgina.dll / automated system recovery

S

Steph

Please help!

I've posted before about my missing msgina.dll which will
not allow me to load windows, nor start any kind of
command prompt to replace the file. I received the
following advice:

"Boot from the XP CD, and press [R] then [C] at the
Welcome screen to
start the Recovery Console and then type:

cd \windows\servicepackfiles\i386

copy MSGINA.DLL c:\windows\system32

copy SHELL32.DLL c:\windows\system32

copy WINLOGON.EXE c:\windows\system32

copy SHLWAPI.DLL c:\windows\system32

If the DLLs aren't in the Servicepackfiles folder, you
have to extract
them from the XP CD directly by typing:

expand D:\i386\MSGINA.DL_ C:\windows\system32"

When I try to boot from the cd, I am instructed to enter
the admin password, which I do not know as my windows xp
was installed before I bought my computer.

I try an alternative, which asks me to insert
my 'automated recovery' disk, which I do not have.

Two possible solutions I can think of:

Is there any way to bypass the password section?
Can I download a disk that simulates the automated
recovery?

Are there any other options?

All I need is access to a command prompt!!!

Thanks in advance.

Desparate Steph!

Hi,
I advised you earlier regarding the edit of Doug Knox,MVP,then you
replied:-"I can't use that file as I can't get windows to restart."
Re to your earlier post: 'Logon screen fails to show - msgina.dll failed
to load'7/5/2004 6:48 AM

Then I advised you how to extract a good copy of msgina.dll.
Regarding Admin.password-it is gebnerally blank.

Just press enter at the password prompt.

More:
MSGINA.DLL is used to display the logon screen and it's a
critical component of Winlogon.exe. (The system process
that allows the computer to logon to a profile and
shutdown the system normally)
In addition, LSASS may not be able to initialise the Local
Security Authority (LSA). LSASS is a system critical sub-
system.
