Msconfig-startup

On my Toshiba Tecra A3 laptop, windows xp pro takes a few seconds to load,
but the 31 programs shown in msconfig-startup take another 3 minutes or so.
How can I find out what these programs are, and which ones are safe to
untick?
Thanks, Paul

You can find out what the programs are by either Googling their names or
by looking the names up on some of these sites:

http://aumha.org/a/loads.htm - What loads at Startup?
http://castlecops.com/StartupList.html
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

Thanks Jaymon,
I've disabled half of them with the links from Malke and I'll check your
link tonight.

More may be starting that you think!

Autoruns is a programme, which lists everything starting
and where it starts from. Try downloading and installing:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

You can save the output of the Everything tab to a txt file.
Place the cursor on any item in the list and it gives a save
as option on the File drop down. Post a copy of suspect
entries giving details of the start location.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gerry,
I'll give Autoruns a try. It sounds like a good program to keep on the PC.
