msconfig startup items

When I go to the startup tab of msconfig, the first item in the list
is blank (or invisible) under startup Item and Command. And under
Location it says HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

How do I find out what this item is?

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You should be able to locate the blank entry and remove it.

I looked at your web page. There is an item in my
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run with a name of
"(Default)" with no data. But it appears that there is a "(Default)"
item in each and every directory level throughout the entire Registry
Editor. Why is that? Is that normal? And everywhere else it says
"(value not set)" under Data, whereas in "\Run" the "(Default)" item
is simply blank under Data. Could the "(Default)" item in "\Run" be
what is creating the blank entry in the Startup Items?

Hi,

No, it's not the "default" string, check the other entries.

I did already. There is the "(Default)" item, plus 5 legit items. But
SysConfig shows the 5 legit items plus 1 with no name or command for a
total of 6 items in the HKLM...RUN location. Still a mystery.
