msconfig 6 hours later

Thought i was closing in on the problem with msconfig (screensaver and power
settings not working) but couldn't get consistent results. Sometimes with
everything disabled the screensaver still wouldn't come on. Or i would have
to disable something major in windows (like plug n play or shell hardware
detection under the services tab) to get the screensaver to work, then
nothing else would work. So i think i should just reinstall Vista. Does
that still erase everything like in Windows XP. How do i reformat with
Vista??

Hi skyman,

You can reinstall two ways: with or without retaining the existing
installation. To retain it for later data recovery (no system settings or
installed software will be migrated, you will have a true clean
installation), simply do not format as part of setup and the existing
installation will be moved to a windows.old folder. If you have nothing to
save, then format during setup.
