My virus scan program consistently tells me that I have the above referenced
virus, and that I should halt internet access, run the scan and clean the
file. I have run it three times, and nothing is found. I have discovered
that there was a security patch for this (823980), but when I download that
they tell me that I have a more recent patch (Secuirty Pac 2) but that
doesn't seem to be solving my problem. What can I do?
I received my Windows XP program in my computer when I purchased it, but the
manufacturer (Dell) says I have to refer back to Microsoft, who tells me I
have to contact the manufacturer. How can I get this fixed?

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

microsoft.public.security.virus
alt.comp.virus
alt.comp.anti-virus

Did is say you were infected or did it say it blocked an Exploit attempt ?

If you don't want to see such messages and you use Broadband Internet, get a Cable/DSL
Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41. It will see theis exploitations and be blocked at the
Router and won't be seen at the PC. It will also protect against future exploitations where
the OS has not yet been patched and your un-identified AV software is unaware of yet.
