MS Wheel Mouse Optical Problem

This is a problem that's been nagging me for a long time now. A
least ever since I installed XP Pro SP-2 on this machine a few month
ago

Here's the problem: Without ever as much as touching the right mous
button, I will occasionally get the 'right mouse button popup menu
that you normally would get if you DO click the right mouse button

In most instances, all I have to do is try to move the mouse cursor o
simply move the mouse, period

I have replaced my previous Basic WheelMouse Optical with the newe
"BLUE" Optical WheelMouse and have installed the latest Intellimous
drivers. It was this issue that prompted me to get a new mouse

So far, nothing I've tried -- even adjusting sensitivity and such -
has helped

What REALLY becomes annoying is that this little 'function' can als
happen in 3D games. That means, when moving through a game using m
mouse, I may suddenly, and without any warning, see my right mous
button function used.

I have my mouse and keyboard BOTH connected directly to the rear o
the computer on the USB 2.0 connection. They are NOT connected to a
add-on USB connector or HUB

Yet another issue is: Occasionally, without even touching the mouse
the cursor will scroll entirely on its own either up or down....ver
slowly

This second issue doesn't happen nearly as frequently

I'd appreciate any help and/or suggestions as to how to resolve eithe
of these....but the first one especially

Thx

On what surface do you use the mouse? Optical mice are very sensitive to
the mousing surface. If the surface is glass, shiny material, patterned
mousepad, too-light, this could cause those issues. Even though optical
mice don't technically need a mousepad, sometimes using one can help.
Whatever you are using, try switching to a plain dark mousepad.

Seems unrelated but it could be your keyboard. A sticking key and cause all
sorts of glitches. There is a key on most keyboards equivalent to the mouse
right click. Try another keyboard if you have one available.

As for the mousepad option, I use a pure black thin pad made b
Kensington that has a wrist pad with it. So, I have every doubt tha
the pad is the culprit

As for the keyboard suggestion: That never crossed my mind. But,
do have my hand on the keyboard most all the time. This is somethin
I'll definitely check out

Thanks
