MS Update 819696 won't take

I have tried t least 5-10 to update my XP Pro box with MS update 819696, and
it won't take.

I download and install it from the MS site, restart, go back to the update
site, and it still shows that this update is availavle for download.

Anyone else run across this?

I'm getting the same (very annoying) thing.
I let Microsoft download and install this at least three
times, and it still tells me, every time I boot up, that I
need this "new" update.
I've taken to just ignoring the update-alert.

The "solutions" offered in

fail to solve the problem.
Update 819696 still insists that it needs to be installed.

The two fixes described in article 319101 both fail to
solve the problem of update number 819696 repeatedly
wanting to install itself.
819696 has been installed on my system a bunch of times
already, and it keeps insisting that it's a "new" patch
that I need.
