MS Paint only flood fills in grey

R

Robin

For some reason, my MS paint program will only fill with the color grey. It
doesn't matter what colors I choose either left or right clicking after
selecting the flood fill tool. It always fills it with either light or dark
grey. I have tried closing and opening the program, closing and opening the
image, choosing all of the colors each individually. It still just fills
with light or dark grey. Does anyone know what could be wrong here?
BTW..using Windows XP.
Thanks
Robin

As a test, try this:

Save the image as a .bmp with 256 colors. See if this copy can be
filled properly. If so, I imagine there are problems with high
resolution graphics and overlays of color; you're just changing the
colors on one "layer". (Please forgive my incorrect terminology; this
is not my area of "expertise".) You may need to get a better editor
that can handle high color resolution.

Thanks. No, that didn't work, either :(

I'm sorry. I don't understand what you mean. What is the "free-from
select?

On the MS Paint on the Left Side the first two selections when you want to
fill or select a shape, it is like a star shape called Free-From select.
Try to Hover with your mouse and a tooltip will tell what the Icon for and
what it is.

He meant Free-FORM Select.

To fill an area or object with color
1. In the toolbox, click Fill With Color.
2. Click or right-click a color in the color box if the color you want is
different from either the current foreground color or background color.
3. Click or right-click the area or object you want to fill.

Notes
* If the shape you want to fill has any breaks in its border, the fill color
spreads to the rest of the drawing area. To find and close any openings,
click the View menu, pointing to Zoom, and then click Large Size or Custom.
* To fill with the foreground color, click the area; to fill with the
background color, right-click the area.

foreground color
The color used for lines, borders of shapes, and text. It is represented by
the top square on the left side of the color box in Paint. Apply this color
using any tool except the eraser. Change this color at anytime by clicking a
color in the Color box.

background color
The color used to fill the inside of enclosed shapes and the background of
text frames. The background color replaces the area of your picture that has
been cut out or moved using the Free-Form Select and Select tools. It is
represented by the bottom square on the left side of the color box in Paint.
Apply this color using any tool except the text tool; it also appears when
you use the eraser. Change this color at anytime by right-clicking a color
in the Color box.
