MS Word Table became "filled"

I have a few dozen tables within a large MS Word 2003 document. For no
reason I can determine, the text-within-all-cells throughout the document
have become dark-blue filled. I specify that the entire table-cell itself IS
NOT color-filled, only the written text. In Borders & Shading there is no
shading selected for any of the table cells. The "paint can icon" is greyed
out (unavailable) for all table-cells, so I know it didn't happen like that.
Any thoughts? Thanks, Jeff

If it's just color behind the written text -- and not color filling the
entire cell -- it sounds like you've inadvertently highlighted the text OR
applied highlighting to the style used in the table.

Try selecting the entire table (Table - Select - Table). Then go to the
highlighter icon in the Formatting toolbar and select "None."

I hope that helps.

Hi Fred, and thanks for the response. Unfortunately, this did not remove the
background color. The text itself if "color-filled" and as I said, I cannot
determine what I did to cause it. I'm going to delete all of the tables and
recreate them. Sometimes, going back to square-one helps to preserve sanity.
Thanks again, Jeff.

AFAIK, that's an issue only in Word 2007. Although the original context has
been snipped, the OP began, "I have a few dozen tables within a large MS
Word 2003 document."
