Been using this since first offered , with no problem until yesterday.

Downloaded tool and saved to desktop as usual.

Clicked tool and it took 60+ seconds to start..This is a first and never
happened before.

Tried this several times with same result 60+ secs to start scan.

Then removed completely and did a clean download and clealn reiinstall of
tool.. Did this twice.....Same problem..

Then from tool site merely selectedl Run... same problem.
Even tried with AV disabled, Firewall disabled..no luck

Appreciate any ideas?

Thanks in advance

dad,

I too have used it since the beginning with no problems.
No problems on Tuesday's manual download and run on two machines.

Are you using Vista or XP?

You might try this, after downloading the Tool. Right-click on it, and then
choose Properties. On the General tab, if there is an Unblock button, click
on it, and then click Apply, and OK. You didn't state your OS, but I know
in Vista if the file is a compressed one with several files in its package,
Vista cautiously checks each and every one in "in quiet mode", without user
interaction. Unblocking the file removes all the checks, as well as the
initial "Are you sure you want to run this file?" warning dialog.

Hello oldad, welcome back,

Have you time if you go to
1. C:\Windows\System32\MRT.exe.
2. Click the .exe "Window" with accompanying sponge and soap suds ready for
work.
I t take the same time to open??

Also have a look

1. Locate and open the Malicious Software Removal Tool log file (Mrt.log).
The log file is typically located in the %windir%\debug folder on your
computer. %windir% refers to the location of the Windows folder.
2.After you open the file, find the most recent entry in the log file. This
entry is typically the last entry in the log file. You may have to scroll
down to the end of the log file to find this entry
See if you detect any hip-cup between start and finish.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Ho Engel,

You just won the gold trophy and made my day.

Went to sys32..MRT clicked on MRT window when opened (maybe two secs)
clicked quick scan and BINGO... Started scan immediately, did this a couple
times to be sure, then put a short cut of that MRT on desktop to replace the
downloaded one, and it works great, Just like uptown

Much thanks to you, Tim Clark and dean-dean

Hi oldad,

Great we nailed it. Thanks for getting back to us with your success.
Nothing is more frustrating than supplying a fix and having the outcome just
go off into a bit bucket. This is a learning process for everyone here.

dad,

Wait, we're not done yet!

Check the properties of MRT.EXE
Make sure it is version 1.31.2276.0
and NOT 1.30.xxx

Since you have had no problems before now you might still have Last Months
MRT.EXE

If the attempt to run the most recent download is failing the old version
might be left behind and be the one you see.

Check it out please and let us know.
If it is the new version at least we will have a work around for the future,
but it would be good if we could figure out why you are having the problem in
the first place.

?:)
