MS-DOS change full screen?

C

Caryn

I have a game that is played in DOS mode. It is over 10
years old and does not play in windows. The game is
automatically played at full screen in dos which makes
the game pretty stretched out. I figure the game is best
played at 800x600 or less, but even when I change my
screen resolution the game goes right back to 1280x800.
Is there anyway to change the screen resolution for a
game played in ms-dos? It doesn't work when I try to
tell it to play in a window.

Perhaps your game has an option to change the screen resolution. Look
in the game options, especially in the screen size option.

However, if the game automatically plays in full screenmode, this is
because the game is not a Windows-compatible game. DOS does not have
the capability to display in a window, or change the screen size any
other way than programmatically. That is, unless the game itself has
an option to change the screen size, you are stuck with your current
resolution.

Incorrect information. For one theing the is no DOS in XP, but DOS
emulation. For another one can set properties in shortcuts for DOS based
programs to run in normal window, full screen or minimized, also more
settings may available in compatibility modes. If the program runs at
all in XP these settings can probably be changed.
