MS Critical Updates

Dave

I bought a new system in April this year and installed an
XP Home Office upgrade version. Originally I allowed MS
updates automatically thinking this would keep my machine
up to date, safe and reliable. The result was it has
totally crashed 3 times causing total loss of data as no
recivery method worked (done at a repair shop). This
time they installed a different mother board and video
card. The shop claims these updates are largely untested
and I should wait for a full SP to come out. I can't
afford another crash, yet I am concerned about
these "critical updates" I am not applying. Any
suggestions, thoughts, comments?

Hi Dave,

There are no current issues with any of the critical updates available at
the Windows Update site that I am aware of at this time.

You've been taken. No update is going to destroy your motherboard and video
card!

Another phrase for critical update is preemptive bad PR update. It's just in case there is bad PR they can use the excuse "we issued an update".

Most of the so called critical updates address theoretical flaws not actual flaws. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
