MS Antispyware vs. MS Defender

L

Lanny Bender

When I clicked on my Favorite for the MS Antispyware site I got a site;
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx that
was for MS Defender (Beta 2).

Now I know that when I originally installed MS Antispyware it was in beta
testing too. In fact, every time I went to the site, it said it was in
beta. Now all of a sudden I see a site for Defender (Beta 2). What's the
difference between the antispyware programs?

Oh yeah, will the Microsoft Antispyware/Defender programs ever get out of
Beta testing?

i installed it and immediately de-installed it because it kept mucking up my
monitor...

With the release of Beta 2, Microsoft AntiSpyware was
renamed to Windows Defender. You should uninstall the
old Microsoft AntiSpyware, then download and install
Windows Defender...it runs great!

As soon as they have had enough free testers testing and they figure out
how much to charge for it, they will, not a moment sooner.

None. Defender is the new name, the one that will be used when the product
is released.

It's like Longhorn, the old code name for the beta version of the product
that is now called Windows Vista, and which will be released under that
name.

Yes, when Microsoft deceides that it's ready.

Windows Defender is the next version of MS Antispyware - renamed.
Remove MSAS from Add/Remove programs and install Windows Defender.
There are newsgroups specifically for it, support is not offered in this
newsgroup.

Heard you loud and clear but, I downloaded spybot and it found 300 hits but
then would not let me fix them without buying the program. I tried that and
it took the credit card number etc but then said the bank refused it. I have
a debit card and they only listed credit cards for Mastercard, could this be
the reason?

Um, Spybot, Search and Destroy is free as the air. They accept donations
but it isn't mandatory. Sure we're talking about the program that can be
gotten at http://www.safer-networking.org/?

You are honestly admitting to letting Microsoft handle the security of your
computer?

So were many Linux distros Rock. MS seems to still sell in a market where
there is also the free. Amazing isn't it? Must be one of those Ying-Yang
mystical things. Either that or The Hon. Sir. W. Gates was a vastly
benelovent man whom greatly suffered in a past life and now present karama
has bestowed his rewards upon thee.

Do you know the name of the NG support for Windows Defender? Is it the
ERROR reporting group for Windows Defender (Beta 2)?
