MS AntiSpyware utility finds nothing, nada, zip, zilch

After running the MS AntiSpyware beta for a few weeks, it
has yet to identify one instance of malware.

As a test of the beta, I disabled SpyBotS&D and SpySweeper
so that only the MS utility is resident. Each morning
after I receive the message indicating no spyware was
found, I run SpyBot S&D and then SpySweeper. Frequently,
one or both, locate malware items that I believe are
significant, such as ebates.

The info from MS is that this utility is more selective
than other antispyware utilities, but I would think that by
now ebates and similar malware would be on their list of
identified nasties.

I'm running XP Pro and as far as I can tell, the MS
AntiSpyware utility is updating without any problem. I
have the setting adjusted for most restrictive.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode, remember to disable System restore
first. On the Scan Page, choose Scan Options > Full System Scan. Scan at
least 2 times.

I agree, MS ruined Giant. I've been running this for 2
weeks now, and want to know how many "malware" object
found? ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!

I run Ad-aware scans right after scanning with this,
finds easily 50 criticals. This is not even an excuse
for a beta product.

Whatwever MS did when they converted giant to this
garbage, they better undo. I hope people don't actually
depend on this product, beta or not: it doesn't work.

I beg to differ - it works much better than Ad-Aware. I have six resident anti-spyware programs running, and the MS/Giant solution is catching quite a bit. Believe what you would like, but here is a comparison of various products.

PS. It doesn't matter what OS you are using here - malware doesn't have any prejudices. If there is a vulnerability, it will surely try to compromise your system Studies are done on test rat machines I'm sure - ones that aren't fully patched. That way they can sponge up a bunch of garbage and then see what gets detected.

Its still in beta, lets give it a chance, discuss the problems you have been
encountering and this will be an opportunity to fix them, there is a second
beta coming.
