AntiSpyware not finding spyware

Is anyone else noticing that Microsofts antispyware will
often run a scan finding no spyware, yet when you run
another program such as ad-aware se, or spysweeper, it will
come back with a lot a spyware.. I just ran Antispyware and
Ad-Aware SE side-by-side and Ad-Aware found 35 objects
whereas Antispyware found 0. Is this because of what
Antispyware is scanning? i know Ad-Aware can customize how
you scan your computer, can you do the same with Antispyware?

Try running MSAS in Safe Mode, on the Scan Page choose Scan Options > Full
System, run the scan at least two times until something is found.

Keep in mind that whatever any Spyware program reports as
Spyware is subjective.

Could the 35 objects picked up by Adaware be MRU
objects? These are not critical and can be turned off
with an option in Adaware. Perhaps you have it set to on
whereas MS AS doesn't report on these really trival MRU
lists.

Just a guess.

Not all cookies are bad, and I have said it before, its still in the early
stages, that is why you continue use thirdparty solutions in tandem with
MSAS.

Cookies and recently used lists in the registry aren't spyware. You
didn't tell us WHAT the other products found so obviously no one knows
what you decided not to tell them.

For non-cookie malware, have you bothered to report it using MSAS
(Tools -> Suspect Spyware Report)?

I downloaded the latest version of Microsofts AntiSpyware
and ran the pretty program. It found ZILCH. I then ran
Spybot immediately after. It found;
FastClick 1 entry
Advertising.com 2 entries
Avenue A Inc 1 entry
CoreMetrics 1 entry
DoubleClick 1 entry
MedicalPlex 1 entry
HitBox 5 entries
After running AdAware it found 11 entries
All were deleted,..... I think.
Next week im sure I will find the same collection of crap!
My conclusion, none of these anti programs do diddlely
squat. The fox is in the chicken coop.

You found zilch, but the point is, did you run it in using full system scan
in safe mode? Scan Page > Scan Options > Full System Scan ;-)

Hi Derek,

In the Beta1 version, the program doesn't go into the cookie jar, nor does
it chase data miner objects.

Cookies aren't spyware. Neither are MRU (most recently used) lists.

Use a browser with decent cookie management. Or get an add-on to IE to
do the cookie management. Or get a 3rd party browser-independent tool
to manage whitelists and blacklists for cookies. If you want to manage
your cookies then do so. But don't blame MSAS because you keep
revisiting those sites that leave unwanted cookies on your system.
