Having run Microsoft antispyware I was told no spyware was found on my
computer. Thereafter I ran Ad-Awarwe se, when encountered 11 "critical
objects". Why the discrepancy?

In its original subscription form, this program was number 1 in the malware
stakes. Following its release as a free Beta version, it seems to update
definitions less frequently compared to other programs.
For example: if SE updates on mon, wed, fri, and MS updates on a thursday,
SE has a head start on finding the bugs that MS is not aware of. hence the
discrepency
My AdawareSE reported 29 instances including cookies immediately after a MS
scan and reboot.
Hopefully the Beta 2 version will show a great improvement. Until then do as
I do and run both just to be sure.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't need multiple layers of protection.

In an almost-perfect world, a single product suffice.

Unfortunately, none of the programs watch all vulnerable areas.
