MS AntiSpyware disabled on re-boot

WinXP Pro Ver. 2002 SP2:
I have installed, removed, and re-installed AntiSpyware (Beta) 5 or 6 times
now. The same problem keeps occuring:

AntiSpyware works fine until I re-boot. Then, the desktop icon has changed
to the plain vanilla default icon. When I try to launch AntiSpyware, I get
"The item 'GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been
changed or moved, so this shortcut will not work properly."

If I look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware, there is nothing there
but the subdirectory "Quarantine" and the file "ShellExtension.dll".

When I remove it in Add/Remove Programs, I get "Error 1905" on about 8 .dll
files.

I have gone through the on-line validation procedure and downloaded the
AntiSpyware installation file several times, each time with the same result.

Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks,
Karl

What other "protection" software programs are you running and did you
install MSAS while logged on as Administrator or with admin access?

John,
I have re-posted this in the microsoft.private.security.spyware.general
forum, where I suppose it properly belongs.
I am running AdAwareSE, SpywareBlaster, SpyBot S&D, Spyware Doctor,
SpySweeper, and Norton AV 2003. I am logged on as Administrator for all
operations.
Thanks,
Karl

FWIW, I've read at least one other post with similar symptoms, which mystify
me completely. You've done a very clear job of describing what happens.

I'd be interested in what happens if you run MSCONFIG and restart in
Diagnostic mode, and reinstall the program--is that possibe? and if you can
do it in that mode, does it then "stick?"
