MS AntiSpyware corrupt file

Jane

I keep getting an error message popping up in the system
tray with a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark
in it, reading:

"GIANT AntiSpyware Data Service: gcastDtServ.exe - Corrupt
File

The file or directory C:\PROGRA~1\Microsoft
AntiSpyware\errors.log is corrupt and unreadable. Please
run the Chkdsk utility."

Can anyone give me any assistance on solving this? I'm not
sure what the Chkdsk utility is, so therefore don't know
how to run it. I'm using version 1.0.501 of the Microsoft
AntiSpyware software.

Thanks

Double click "My Computer"
Right-click the C: drive
Click Properties
Click Tools Tab
Click Check Now button

Download the latest version of MSAS (1.0.509) and download the latest
spyware definition 2721

If Jan's advice, which I concur with, doesn't do the job for you, here are
my thoughts:

1) you can delete errors.log--it isn't important to have it around--i.e.
correcting the file via chkdsk isn't essential.

2) One way to fix the first error message might be an update install:
Control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change,
update.
(however-- updating to the slightly newer .509 code as Jan mentions, might
be a good thing to do.)
