MS Antispyware (Beta) Build 1.0.615

I cannot use this program as I keep getting "This version of MS Antispyware
has expired as of 31 December12 2005. Please contact Microsoft for an updated
version." I tried downloading again after removing the program but the same
happens. My laptop works fine with the same program build, downloaded the
same day. Both have XP Home.

Check the date and time on your computer and make sure it is set to the
appropriate date.

You have a non-default setting for your date format.

Go to control panel.
Date, Time, Language, and regional options
Regional and Language options
Next to your chosen laguage, click customize
click the date tab
click the drop down controls for long and short date formats and reset each
to the topmost choice which I believe to be the default.

Click OK to record your choices.

This should eliminate the expiration message.

You may want to do the same for the time format, but this is less crucial.
If you choose a 24 hour time format, you won't be able to schedule scans for
afternoon times.

seems the beta verson cannot accept PM times for sceduled scanning. whenever
you try to set to 11pm, it reverts to 11am. it happens with anytimes, 10pm ->
10am etc.

You are spot on, Bill. The short date format was in a non default setting,
i.e. 10 November 2005. When changed to one of the options available, MS
antispyware worked. My thanks and appreciation to you.

If you change the clock format to a 12 hour one, temporarily, you can
schedule the scan. The scan will remain on schedule when you immediately
switch back to a 24 hour clock format.

One quick way to do this is to select English (United States) as your
language for long enough to do the schedule setting.

This one is a significant annoyance to the majority of folks in the world
who use a 24 hour time setting. It'll be gone with beta2, along with, I
hope, every one of the issues for which we have standard workarounds. It'll
be finding the new ones that'll be the challenge, then!

Dear Bill,
Hi again........
This, and other posts re: short date format were helpful to me. Thank you.
MSAS 'System Summary' and 'Quick Stats' now display 'definitions' dates
correctly.

An observation:
My short date format was 'M/dd/yyyy', appearing at the bottom of the
drop-down list. I reset it to 'd/MM/yyyy' - default setting, top of list. The
'M/dd/yy' entry, thereafter, disappeared from the list [?!].

I recently needed to try a Windows 'Repair' procedure - booting from CD
-tried it twice, it failed dismaly so I had to re-install, and this I note:

The default short date format for REPAIR IS 'M/dd/yyyy' !!!!!!
The default short date format for normal INSTALL is 'd/MM/yyyy.

I think anyone who has done, or needs to do, a repair on XP should be made
aware of this disparity, Otherwise, as you rightly point out, "strange
things" will happen.

Best Regards
Colin.

That's interesting--don't know what to make of the information about the
changes after a repair install

However, with luck, this issue won't be with us for too long. Beta2 should
be available sometime in the next few months.
