AntiSpyware

I downloaded the latest AntiSpyware from Microsoft's site and when it
installs it says that it has an expired date of 12/31/2005. The program will
not run

Please try some alternative remedies:

1) retry the download, making certain to save the downloaded file to the
desktop, and then double-click it to run from there.

2) go to start, all programs, microsoft antispyware, microsoft antispyware
update. Wait to see if an upgraded version download is offered--it may take
a short period of time before this is offered.

Let us know which (if either!) of these options works.

Bill: I say a nother message agout going to the folder where the AntiSpyware
was installed and running the program GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe. That
solved my problem. A newer version was loaded.

Thanks for this imformation Bill, I didn't know that saving a product download
to the desktop, and then installing it made a differance. I will remember this
advice. I have recently downloaded a mycrosoft product, not a beta product,
but one I was interested in and it only half installed. I ran the
instalation from
current location, and it messed up. Anyhow, If I had saved it to the desktop,
first, it might have made a differance.

I have also had the same problem.
I notice MSAS wan't running and trying to start it told me it expired
31/12/2005

So, I downloaded the latest, and when I run it, I am offered to upgrade or
remove.
I chose update, but even after reboot MSAS isn't running and trying to run
it gives the same error above.
I've even uninstalled and re-installed from the new download and get the
same error.
I tried the suggestions listed by Bill below, and also runig the Giant
Updater in the program folder (which doesn't seem to run)

HELP!!

Thanks
Neil

I believe that action to be identical to my 2nd suggestion--but I guess I'd
better go check out to be sure.

At any rate--glad that it worked.

Don't read more into that suggestion than I wrote, please.

There's some question about whether folks choosing download and run are in
some way getting old copies locally cached in their temporary Internet files
cache. The "save to desktop" is intended to try to avoid this issue--if, in
fact, it really exists.

So--this is not a general prescription--but very specific to what's
happening with this download--and perhaps unnecessary, at that--don't
generalize from it.

Hi Bill

I think it´s time for someone from MS to maybe try to
explain this problem......... if we have some "MS-Lurker".... ;)

- Is it a MS > Akamai mess ?

What is "Akamai":

http://www.akamai.com/en/html/technology/nocc.html

- Is it a update trigger mess ?

I have not seen this problem reported from anyone in my country so
this is strange.

Bill Sanderson laid this down on his screen :

I've complained directly to Microsoft before about this issue--I'm having
some trouble believing that it is within their distribution channel after
all this time.

It happens that Bill Sanderson formulated :

Savvis does work similar to what akamai does, as I understand it, with an
additional plus in that they use Windows servers to do the job, rather than
Linux.....

--

Bill Sanderson

Thats great then--just wanted to be sure--this is a unique issue--there
shouldn't be anything special about the desktop as a location to save
something, and, indeed, saving, rather than running--should also make no
difference.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for explaining that to me, I appreciate it. I was just looking for
options
to try to resolve an issue that I am dealing with, in the performance of my
computer. Basically, I'm just looking for imformation that pertains to my
problem, or ideas to try.

Hi

Well... Linux or not this must be a DNS mess...........

I remember that about MS using Linuxservers ;)

Maybe Savvis is used for more in US ? As I can see I am only using
akadns, but this is complicated ;) Distribution to all download
servers
and then load balancing for downloads and other querys/reports.

With Sysinternals TCP view and Etherreal this can easily
be tracked but thats something for MS to handle.

When I used the hyperlink in the "expired" error message to drill down to the
download, I also got the old version again. But when I started at the top,
www.microsoft.com, and drilled down to the download, I got the new version.
Or else there's a switch that toggles back and forth on every download :)

I should also admit that I renamed the old download on the second
(successful) try so that it would not be replaced, as it was on the first
try. The new version is 49KB larger (6,749KB). This shouldn't have had any
effect, but who knows. Would be nice if the different versions had different
download file names.
