AutoUpdater gone into overdrive

C

Chas W

Current version info:

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.614
This version expires on: 31/12/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5731 (04/07/2005 12:24:10)
Product ID: 76831-000-0000012-00123

Since upgrading to v 1.0.614, the autoupdater has gone into
overdrive and has downloaded "Spyware Definition Version:
5731", time after time.

I have toggled AutoUpdater OFF and resorted to manual
updates but still get v. 5731 over and over (but only when
I choose!)

Is it a product bug or just my system?

Out of curiosity, would you please list the contents of your
error.log file from the msas folder here?

In my prior post I asked for error.log. That should read errors.log.

This is my version info:
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.614
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5731 (7/1/2005 3:47:10 PM)
Product ID: 76831-000-0000012-00123

Note the different time and date format. This is a problem for some
users.
Try changing to US English date and 12 hour time.

I've been experiencing the same thing.
Known problem, workaround as follows;

Almost everyone (if not everyone) has this update problem. The solution is
the manual update using plun's procedure:

"Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware

Restart MSAS and "check for updates"

Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."
