Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.614
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5735 (7/17/2005 8:32:28 AM)

Product ID: 76831-000-0000012-00123

My program is stuck in a loop with the updates, when done
either by automatic or manual. I keep getting update from
5725 to 5735 every time i check it. This happens both on
automatic mode as well as manual. Thanks for your
assistance.

See the first post dated July 9th in the thread "Definition update
recycling - Permanent Fix" in the group
"microsoft.private.security.spyware.announcements" and follow the steps
there to see if you need to update the file gcUnCompress.dll.

Then in control panel Internet Options, empty your Temporary Internet Files,
selecting "Delete all offline content" on the way.

Only then try to update the MSAS definitions.

If it still does not update correctly and permanently, then check the end of
the file errors.log in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\ to
see if there any error messages dating from the time of the update. If
there are error messages there relating to the time of attempted update,
then just keep trying, about once per day. Eventually it will come right.

Some persons have been experiencing issues upgrading from definitions 5727,
5729, 5731 and 5733 to 5735. Please remember to have the following patch
applied:
"Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware
Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."

If you encounter issues trying upgrade automatically or manually from
definitions 5731 and 5733 to 5735, try updating manually more than once
(File > Check for Updates) or copy the back the .gcd files again from the
above links to the program files group for Microsoft AntiSpyware.

I'm having the same problem. Just tried uninstalling,
then reinstalling M/S AntiSpyware; did NOT rectify the
problem. Was thinking my newly-installed Norton A/V 2005
was the culprit; don't think so now. Not wishing bad
things on anyone, but ... glad I'm not the only one
having problems. Unfortunately, don't know what to do.
