MS Access versions and Office 97 spellchecker

J

Jess

All my end users use MS Office in one or other of its
flavours, some with and some without MS Access.

If I were able to identify the spellchecker of each Office
Word version would I be able to install a series of
spellchecker buttons on my toolbar, each of which links to
the appropriate file, and then just the applicable one
would work at the end user site from my mde? Currently my
97 app gives a message "Spellchecker not installed" on all
but Office 97 installations, on the latter it works
perfectly.

How would I find out what the spellchecker file is, which
should be included? If I look at the properties of any
spellchecker button I am unable to see what it actually
RUNS.

HELP!!!!!

I am not sure if this will even help, but...
From what I gather, Microsoft changed the dll it uses for
spellchecking after Office 97. So if your app was
developed using 97 and the users that have 97 are working
fine, this may be your problem. The newer versions may not
have the necessary (97) dll files.

Run a search on your 97 computer and look for
MSSP*
You should see results like:
MSSP232.dll
MSSPC32.dll
etc. etc.

Then, test the following on a machine that doesn't have 97
(maybe 2000 instead):
copy the files (from your 97 machine) to the appropriate
directories (on the 2000 machine) then register the dlls:

START>RUN>
regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\MSSP232.dll

This may help, or it may not..but it's a suggestion
Good Luck.
