Can an access 97 application run in open office... and if so how would I
use open office to open it? Do I need to import the tables and forms?
will it look and function the same? any problems I may encounter? etc.

No, it can't.

Open Office Base is a very different program and in my (limited) exprerience,
it's possible to import Tables; but none of the user-interface objects are
compatible, and the program itself is less capable and harder to use.
