MPEG audio OK - exported movie audio missing

I imported a hi-def movie (Canon HV20 and Windows Vista) into WMM. I can hear
the audio in the imported/created MPEG file. But when I export the movie, in
any configuration, the audio is missing. This is the audio that is on the
original HD miniDV tape recorded on the tape at the same time the HV20 was
recording the video.

Any suggestions?

you posted to the XP newsgroup, where MM2.1 doesn't handle such files... did
you mean you used Vista's MM6?
