Moving XP Pro License

P

Have purchased a new computer with XP Home to replace an old P2 that I
intend to cannibalize for parts, etc. XP Pro license was store bought as a
upgrade to Win 98.

Can I uninstall XP Pro and then move that license over to the new machine
running XP Home? If yes, then how.

Have everything backed with multiple hard drives and am ready to go.

Yes you can install the retail xp pro onto the computer with oem xp home.
Just be warned, if you do this you will most likely void your warranty and
support you have with the oem computer. Call the oem for details.
All you need to do is install xp pro, then at activation time at the worst
you will be notified to call ms and tell them you moved xp pro to the new
computer.

Do I have to uninstall the OS on either computer?

You would have to uninstall xp pro from the computer it is on right now, to
stay in compliance with the ms eula. (but as far as the install is concerned
pro does not have to be removed technically). You decide to follow the eula
or not.
You can then install xp pro as an upgrade or clean install on the xp home
computer.

No problem. As it is a retail (not OEM) copy, and has been deleted from
the old machine in the cannibalisation, just install on the new - run
the CD from that system, and take Install, continuing with Upgrade.
When it comes to activation, you may find it will go through on the net
anyway - if more than 120 days since you last did it certainly will. If
not, you will have to phone a toll-free number that will be given, to
explain and swap one long number for another to check back as you type
it in
