Moving windows

i have one hard disk and to improve speed i would like to move windows to a separate hard drive. is there any way to do this without a complete reinstall of everything? Will my windows still be able to activate if i do so? and one on the side question will windows XP home fit on a 2 gig hard disk with a buffer for 512 ram? or maybe withut the buffer?

im just updatint that i read it wrong it is a 2.5 gig not just a 2

Unless the Windows is already on its own in a partition of the same or
smaller size, then a reinstall is the only practical course. 2.5 GB is
tight too, though I manage with it on my laptop. You would need to have
the page file located on the original drive, and make sure that all data
files like My Documents. OE Store folder and the Temp Internet files
were pointed there too. My advice really would be - don't

a 2.5 Gig drive would be too slow for the OS. (it will work, but will
be painful). IMO start with a 10 Gig.

the thing is that i only have the following drives i have 2gig, 2.5gig, and like a 5or7 (i think) that i could take out of other comp but i would have to reinstall OS on that comp if i take the hd out. the idea is that i take windows off my getting full 20gig. maybe i should just get like an 8gig hd off ebay or something. or ask for a bigger one for christmass

That gives reasonable elbow room for the system and basic level programs
- provided you have a second physical drive for data, page file and
major applications - I have most major things on a separate drive, like
the bulk of Office, but some on C, and the actual usage on C is
currently just under 5GB

My C: partition currently uses just over 2.2 Gigabytes. I also have those
items moved to a separate partition. In addition to that, I've re-directed
the DllCache, Driver Cache and ServicePack Files to another drive.
Keeping the system partition "Light", allows me to image it in just under
4-minutes. I would recommend that any programs with large data files
(Streets & Trips, etc) you install to a second drive. Those large modules
can significantly slow down any defrag.

In that case, take one of those other dirves, stick it in a USB
enclosure, and free some space by moving some of your data off to the
other HDD..
