Moving pages to subweb

I am trying to create a subweb from an existing root web.
I have too many pages on my site.

I was recently advised by the good folks in this goup to create an
individual folder for each topic and then drag the associated pages and
images,
etc. into the specific folder, then right click on the folder and
convert to subweb / subsite

After studying this for awhile, I am still baffled.

How do I identify the pages/images that need moving?

There are hundreds of pages and images in the folder view but no clue
as to what page they go with.

Is it possible to create the subweb from the naviagation view?

Or is there another way to do this that I am not seeing?

Sounds like an orginal design issue. You might be able to detemine pages
from the Navigation view (if you used FP Navigation).

To me, it looks like you are in to a page by page review. What I do is
pretty much what you had suggested. I do one more thing... In the images
folder, I also have subfolders identifying each page. All pictures for page
ZZ go into the folder images/ZZ, etc.

Sorry it turned to Spaghetti, it will just take some time to sort it out.
You may have to click on every picture in "Split View" to see the name of the
file.

You can somewhat drag the pages to any folder you want and it will still
retain the links. You just need to make sure the folders created are making
sense for the pages you deposit in there.

Oh, and you did make a backup copy first, correct? :)

1. No you can not automatically create a subweb based on navigation.

2. Your navigation will have to be rebuilt for each subweb as FP can only manage the navigation
components in the web (root or sub) it was created in.

3. There is no easy way to determine what images go to what page without looking at the images on
each page.

Thanks Guys,
I have FrontPage 2000 and I realized I had to have FrontPage2003 in
order to work with "Split View" as recommended. So I ordered a copy.
I will let you know how I make out.

I don't see how upgrading to FP2003 for the Split View function is going to help you with this
issue, since all that split view does is to allow you to see both the design and code view of a
specific page at the same time.

Uh-Oh
I refer you to post number 2 in this topic.
Oh well, I have the upgrade on the way. Hopefully, I will get some use
out of it.
Do you know of any websites where it is spelled out as to how to
accomplish what I am trying to do?

There is not such site that I am aware of.

All you are doing is moving pages to a folder and them moving all images related to those pages into
a folder called images within the folder. Once you have all pages and images in the folder then you
would right click on the folder and select to convert it to a subweb / subsite.

Okay, I have moved all the necessary pages/images to a new subweb.

The problem is now I have no navigation pages.

I can see all the pages/images in the folders view but I have nothing
in the navigation view.

Thanks, Pinto

You have to recreate your navigation structure for each subwebs and create external hyperlinks
between the root and subweb or subweb and subweb.

Okay, I have most of my htm folders copied to the navigation page.
So progress is happening!!!
I am now running into an occasional folder in "folder list" that
appears to have some sort of checkmark in the little blue box. It
won't allow me to move that folder.
Any directions?
